Health Information Management
The Department of Health Information Management (HIM) offers both an online Associate of Science in Health Information Technology and an online Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration degree. The associate’s degree program qualifies the graduate to take the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) national certification exam. The HIM/HIA bachelor’s program is in Candidacy Status, pending accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
The associate’s degree program requires 38 semester credits of general education core, and 39 credits of lower division program coursework for a total of 77 semester credits. The bachelor’s degree program requires an additional 43 credits of upper division coursework for a total of 120 credits.
Both degree programs are year-round with courses offered in the fall, spring, and summer. The associate’s degree program is 8 semesters, part-time. Students are admitted to begin the AS program in both the fall and spring semesters. The bachelor’s degree program requires an additional 4 semesters, full-time. Students are admitted to begin the BS program only in the fall semester.
