Licensure and Certification

Licensure

All radiographers practicing in a state requiring licensure must be licensed.  Arkansas does require licensure.  Upon completion of the associate degree program the student must apply for an Arkansas license in order to practice.  The license is obtained via the Arkansas Radiation Control Board, which is a part of the Arkansas Department of Health.

Certification

Graduates of the program in Medical Radiography (A.S. degree program) have already taken the national certifying examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.  Candidates who pass this examination become Technologists in Radiography [R.T.(R)(ARRT)].  After accruing continuing education credits, the certified technologist becomes a Register Radiographer.  Successful completion of the program does not itself insure registration. Each student is responsible for familiarizing himself/herself with the applicable registration requirements.
