About the Welcome Center

Who We Are

The College of Health Professions (CHP) Welcome & Information Center is the hub for student services. We are hardworking, motivated, skilled,  knowledgeable team players; ready to assist as you explore the many career options the College of Health Professions has to offer.  We also provide excellent customer service to our currently enrolled students.

We offer campus tours, pre-admission academic advising, and allied health career counseling.  We process admission applications for all College of Health Professions programs!  Application deadlines and admission requirements vary by program. If you would like to request an advising session, please fill out our request form. If you are unsure which CHP program is a good fit for you, please email the Welcome Center to request an appointment with our recruiting specialist for allied health career counseling.

The College of Health Professions Welcome & Information Center staff can answer questions or direct you to the right resource and department for the information you need. It is our goal to make a positive impact on your Welcome Center experience.

What is your hometown?  North Little Rock, Arkansas

Where did you go to college?  University of Arkansas at Little Rock

What is your role in the College of Health Professions Welcome Center?  As Assistant Dean for Student Affairs I am focused on the student experience.  Students do many things, including but not limited to, registering for classes, participating in student organizations and events, apply for scholarships and financial aid, complying with program and university policies.  I am committed to ensuring our focus stays on serving students so that their time in the College of Health Professions is a success.   Another area of responsibility is Director of the Welcome Center where we specialize in the future student experience.

fields-phyllis2What’s your favorite thing about the job?  I enjoy helping students be successful.  Sometimes it can be as simple as a listening ear, a hug, or a word of encouragement.  My greatest joy is participating in Commencement.  When I watch students walk across the stage when their name is called, hear the cheers and witness the excitement from their adoring fans, I can’t help but be excited and proud of their accomplishments.  Their success is our success!

What is your favorite way to pass time – what are your hobbies, your talents, your interests?  I enjoy reading, traveling, and collecting pop up books.  I am personally inspired by my family and my faith and I truly believe laughter is good for the soul.

What is one thing about you that might surprise people?  I plan to someday write a children’s book.

What is your hometown?  Uniontown, Ohio

Where did you go to college?  University of Arkansas at Little Rock

What is your role in the College of Health Professions Welcome Center?  I maintain the college website, process student applications/transcripts, answer questions over the phone and in-person from students inquiring about our programs, and other miscellaneous administrative tasks.

What’s your favorite thing about the job?  Working with a diverse group of people every day, both co-workers and students.  Also, the pride that comes from working somewhere that is making a positive difference in people’s lives.

tolleson-rob2What is your favorite way to pass time – what are your hobbies, your talents, your interests?  Video games, cooking, playing with my pets, Netflix marathons, and just relaxing to some good classic rock.

What is one thing about you that might surprise people?  I love to cook for people, especially my wife and neighbors.  The joy and camaraderie that comes from sharing a great meal with loved ones is priceless.

Where did you go to college?  University of Oklahoma

What is your role in the College of Health Professions Welcome Center?  I recruit new students for the College of Health Professions certificate and degree programs in accordance with the mission, goals, and policies of the department and college.

What’s your favorite thing about the job?  I have a small yet important role in helping students fulfill their educational goals.

mitchell-debrah2What is your favorite way to pass time – what are your hobbies, your talents, your interests?  I help build orphanages in Uganda…ok, that’s  not true. I spend most of my spare time with Jack and Jill of America, Inc. serving as Regional Director of the Central Region.

What is one thing about you that might surprise people?  I look soooo much like Halle Berry!…ok, that’s not true either. I have a good sense of humor and I love, love life!

Student Service Specialist

What is your hometown?  Little Rock, Arkansas by way of Tulsa, Oklahoma

What is your role in the College of Health Professions Welcome Center?  I am a Student Service Specialist. This role can cover numerous aspects of the admissions process. My role includes providing pre-academic advising to students interested in our programs and also processing program applications and admission materials for our applicants. I frequently assist in recruitment activities and maintain the college’s Facebook page.

What’s your favorite thing about the job?  My favorite thing about my job is watching our students grow and accomplish their goals. They become graduates and professionals that can promote and change the future of healthcare.

What is your favorite way to pass time – what are your hobbies, your talents, your interests?  Spending time with my family, reading, playing basketball, volunteering, laughing, listening to music, traveling, and watching movies. I love going to church and singing!

What is one thing about you that might surprise people?  I didn’t start driving until I was a junior in college and I love a good corny joke!

What is your role in the College of Health Professions Welcome Center?  I advise applicants interested in enrolling in one of our professional degree programs. I help potential students and their families become educated about our programs and guide them in the application process.

What’s your favorite thing about the job?  Meeting new applicants and their families
