Dr. Hermann Hammans Endowed Scholarship for Physician Assistants

Eligible: Physician Assistant Students

Background and Purpose

Established in 2015, this scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Bart Barlogie’s late step-father, Dr. Hermann Hammans and as a salute to Dr. Barlogie’s daughter, a recent graduate of the Physician Assistant program.  This scholarship will be used to benefit Physician Assistant students in the UAMS College of Health Processions.

Award Amount and Timing

Subject to the availability of funds, the total annual award is $2,000 to the selected student(s).  Scholarship award is as follows: $1,000 per semester for fall and spring semester enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must be accepted as a full-time student pursuing a degree in the Physician Assistant program, who is a single parent or parent with children living in the home.  First consideration will be given to a student who is a single parent.
  2. Applicant must have an incoming cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 at the time the scholarship application is submitted.  Only courses in which regular letter grades are earned are used in the GPA calculation.
  3. Documented Financial Need – All students applying for scholarships must apply for financial aid.  Students are not required to accept awarded loans, but in order to generate the aid report required that officially documents financial need, a completed FAFSA is required.  Please see the Student Financial Services website for more information.

References

  1. Applicant must submit two references on the scholarship application: one from a current faculty member in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, and one from an individual of the applicant’s choosing. Relatives cannot not be used as references.
