Meet Kendra McCraney in our UAMS Respiratory Care program

Meet Kendra McCraney in our UAMS Respiratory Care Education Program in the UAMS College of Health Professions. She is our featured Student Highlight #UAMSCHP

My name is Kendra McCraney.
I am from Helena-West Helena, AR. I chose Cardio-Respiratory Care after shadowing my aunt, who is a respiratory therapist.
I aspire to work towards leadership in respiratory therapy via the public health arena and influence healthcare policy. I am motivated by my desire to care and love on others while also being challenged to think critically to improve my patient’s condition!

Something I appreciate about the Respiratory Care program are the multiple ways of learning and practicing (classroom, lab, and clinical) the clinical skills necessary to perform in my career.

I am set to graduate May 19, 2018!!! After graduation I would like to volunteer abroad in impoverished countries to deliver healthcare and teach safe practices. I see myself changing the community/world by showing leadership and always striving towards improving public health.

The person that has been a big influence in my life is my mother. My mother has been my biggest supporter and critic in my personal and professional growth. When I am faced with any challenges I first remind myself that the Lord’s plan is NOT to harm me but to flourish! Then, I assess my resources, the people who can help me, and focus on the things I can control.

A favorite quote or saying that I have is “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. –Jeremiah 29:11

A few words that may help future students in this program is to learn how to schedule your time because it will be your biggest asset for success!
