Prerequisite Courses


The UAMS College of Health Professions is no longer taking applications for the Health Information Administration B.S. program.

The following 38 general education and program requirements must be taken prior to enrollment in the HIA program. All courses are to be taken at a regionally accredited educational institution. Applicants must have an associate’s degree successfully completed in Health Information Technology or a related area. The coursework of the associate’s degree in HIM or HIT shall be satisfactorily completed with a grade of “C” or above prior to starting the HIA program. Any courses not taken from an accredited CAHIIM Health Information Management program will not transfer as HIT courses. Applicants lacking the general education courses listed below and/or any associate degree level HIT courses must have those requirements completed prior to enrollment in the HIA program. For applicants with an AAS degree, there will be some general education courses that can be taken while in the HIA Program. Courses in ICD-10-CM and PCS Coding are required prior to enrollment.
