The UAMS College of Health Professions is no longer taking applications for the Surgical Technology program.  Planning is in-progress to transfer the  program from UAMS to University of Arkansas – Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock for Fall 2019.  Applicants should follow the steps for admission to UA-PTC.  For more information, please see https://www.uaptc.edu/surge-tech.

As a surgical technology major you will learn the instrumentation and language of the operating room.  You will be able to perform in the sterile environment and work closely with the surgeons and other members of the surgical team.

The surgical technology program is a full-time day program with one cohort of 16 students beginning each fall semester.  The full-time program consists of 2 semesters (fall/spring) with a summer session.  The program is located in Little Rock.  Graduates receive an Associate of Science in Surgical Technology.

Successful completion of all program requirements qualifies the student to sit for the national certification exam.  Successful completion of the program does not itself ensure certification. The program’s mission, goals, and competencies/learning outcomes can be found on the department website.

The program consists of 39 credits of prerequisites course work and 31 credits in the surgical technology curriculum for a total of 70 credits.
