The UAMS Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology is located in Little Rock, the largest metropolitan area of Arkansas. Because of this, students enrolled in the program are afforded a wide variety of practicum sites in Pulaski County and the surrounding area.
Practicum sites include, but are not limited to the following:
- all three school districts in Pulaski County
- ten major acute care hospitals, including the only teaching hospital in the state, UAMS Medical Center, and two Veterans Administration Medical Centers
- several rehabilitation centers including a large residential facility for persons with traumatic brain injury
- many long-term care facilities
- two residential centers for adults with developmental disabilities
- preschools and developmental disability services centers
- Easterseals Arkansas
- Achieve Community Alliance, an affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy
- plus many local private therapy practices
In addition, if students are commuting to Little Rock from towns and cities outside Pulaski County, arrangements for practicum may occasionally be made at or near the student’s home.
All supervision for practicum sites is provided by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association-certified, Arkansas-licensed, speech-language pathologists or audiologists.
