Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology

About the Department

The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology provides graduate programs that prepare individuals for the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology. Our experienced faculty bring a wealth of knowledge to mentor students through the journey of acquiring the knowledge and skills required to diagnose and treat both children and adults who exhibit a variety of communication challenges.

Mission of the Department

The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology’s mission is to educate and prepare future audiologists and speech-language pathologists to provide evidence-based services to populations across the lifespan in a variety of settings. The department is committed to promoting clinical autonomy, advancing knowledge through research and mentorship, improving quality of life through education and advocacy, and fostering pluralism, fairness, and belonging for all students, faculty, staff, and clients.

UAMS Receives $575,113 NIH Grant to Study Eye-Tracking Technology in Assessing Autistic Children

LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received a $575,113 three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to examine the feasibility of using eye-tracking technology as a measure of the implicit word comprehension of autistic children who are minimally verbal or non-speaking.
