Overview
The Doctor of Audiology Program has the following requirements for consideration for admission to the program:
- Meets all admission requirements general to the UAMS College of Health Professions
- A bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited post-secondary academic institution (or equivalent foreign degree as evaluated by Education Credential Evaluators or World Education Services)
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, either overall or for the last 60 credit hours
- Successful completion of specific coursework
- Meets specific technical standards
- A personal essay and video response
- A personal resume or curriculum vitae
- Three letters of recommendation

Special Considerations
The Doctor of Audiology Program has no special considerations it uses when making admissions decisions. All students are considered equally based on their application packet.
Previous Degree Requirement
Prospective students applying to the Doctor of Audiology Program must have earned or be in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited post-secondary academic institution (or equivalent foreign degree as evaluated by Education Credential Evaluators or World Education Services).
The degree must be completed before the start of the Doctor of Audiology Program.
The program does not have any required or preferred majors, but applicants will need to have the required coursework listed below.
Grade-Point Average Requirement
Prospective students applying to the Doctor of Audiology Program must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, either overall or for the last 60 credit hours, to be eligible for admission.
Required Coursework
One undergraduate class in each of the following areas is required:
- Biological sciences (biology; human anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology; or human genetics)
- Physical science (physics, chemistry or acoustics)
- Behavioral sciences (psychology, sociology, anthropology, or education)
- Statistics (Research Methods will not fulfill this requirement.)
- Phonetics (or equivalent)1
- Language acquisition (or equivalent)1
A final grade of C or better is required in each of the prerequisite courses.

Credit by Examination
The Doctor of Audiology Program will accept Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or College Level Examination Program credits awarded by other institutionally accredited post-secondary academic institutions to fulfill the required coursework. To be considered for credit transfer, the official transcript from the awarding institution must reflect the AP, IB or CLEP credits.

Technical Standards
In order to be admitted to the Doctor of Audiology Program, applicants must possess certain physical, cognitive and behavioral abilities necessary to complete the curriculum. These requirements exist to ensure that students are able to effectively acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become competent and successful audiologists. Refer to the Technical Standards page for details.
Personal Essays
Prospective students applying to the Doctor of Audiology Program will be required to submit two separate essays using a 12-point font that address the following questions:
- Essay One
- What inspired you to pursue a career in audiology?
- How to you envision our program will help you achieve your long-term professional goals?
- Essay Two
- Describe a time you faced a significant challenge, conflict, or made a mistake in an academic or professional setting. How did you demonstrate accountability and work to resolve the situation? What did you learn about professionalism and personal growth?
These essays will be uploaded in the “Documents” section of the CSDCAS application.
Video Submission
Include a link to an unlisted YouTube video (no longer than five minutes) answering the following questions:
- How would you describe your approach to embracing and adapting to different academic or training environments? Please provide an example from your past experiences that demonstrate your flexibility and ability to thrive in diverse situations.
- Graduate school often involves juggling various responsibilities such as coursework, research, clinical duties, and personal commitments. Describe an instance when you had to manage multiple tasks or expectations simultaneously. What did you learn from this experience about managing your time effectively?
- Describe how your background or life experiences have shaped your ability to work with people with backgrounds and perspectives that are different from your own. How do you plan to apply these skills when working with other students and patients?
When saving your video in YouTube, please select “Unlisted” under the options for “Visibility.” If you set your video’s visibility to “Private,” we will not be able to see it.

Personal Resume or Curriculum Vitae
Prospective students applying to the Doctor of Audiology Program will be required to submit a current personal resume or curriculum vitae.
Letters of Recommendation
When applying to the Doctor of Audiology Program, prospective students will need to request three letters of recommendation from faculty members. These letters should come from faculty members who are familiar with the applicant’s academic performance, with two of the three being from faculty members in the applicant’s major. Additional letters will not be reviewed.
