Meena Singh Tomer Endowed International Scholarship
Eligible: New students in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program
Background and Purpose
The Meena Singh Tomer Endowed International Scholarship was established in 2019 by her husband Dr. Damber Singh Tomer in honor of Mrs. Meena Singh Tomer, a former medical clinical microbiologist in the UAMS Microbiology Lab and the Arkansas Department of Health Laboratory for her 30+ years of service in the field of microbiology. She was a first generation international student in the medical technology program. Besides her M.Sc. degree in Zoology from India, she also earned her Medical Technology degree from UAMS.
Award Amount and Timing
Subject to the availability of funds, the total annual award is $1,000 to selected student. Scholarship award is as follows: $500 per semester, fall and spring semester enrollment.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be accepted as a new, full-time student in the Medical Laboratory Sciences program in the UAMS College of Health Professions.
- Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average (cGPA) of 2.5 or above.
- Documented Financial Need. All students applying for scholarships must also apply for financial aid if they have not already done so. Students are not required to accept the awarded loans, but a completed FASFA is required to generate the aid report that officially documents the financial need of applicants. - Preference is given to female students who are (a) international students; or (b) a child of first-generation immigrants to the United States whose parents were born in another country and became citizens and residents of the United States.
