The UAMS Bachelor of Science in Cytology Program equips students with the skills needed to become proficient laboratory professionals through hands-on experience with microscopes and a deep understanding of cells and human pathology. As cytologists, our primary goal is early cancer detection, ensuring patients receive the most accurate and advanced treatment. Mission of the Program
The Bachelor of Science in Cytology Program of the Department of Laboratory Sciences in the College of Health Professions is dedicated to providing students with the appropriate education and training necessary for the development of entry-level competencies in all areas of the cytology laboratory. Graduates of the program will be prepared to sit for the national certification examination and will be prepared to practice as ethical and competent professionals. In keeping with the mission of the College of Health Professions, the program will also be actively involved in scholarly activities and professional service including the development and delivery of continuing education to appropriate clinical laboratory professionals.

Degree, Licensure and Certification
A Bachelor of Science in cytology is awarded upon successful completion of the UAMS Bachelor of Science in Cytology Program.
Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for the certification examination in cytology given by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification.
Successfully completing the program does not guarantee certification. Students must familiarize themselves with the applicable certification requirements. Information about U.S. certification is available on the ASCP website. Additional licensure may be required in states such as California, New York, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Montana, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
