About the Department
The mission of the Department of Dental Hygiene is to provide high quality educational opportunities for students to prepare them to become ethical and competent oral health care practitioners. The department provides a curriculum that facilitates instructional strategies that enhance student learning and provides an environment that fosters a commitment to scientific inquiry, life-long learning, community service, and professional development.
Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Program
The Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Program is committed to student engagement, advancing the profession, and increasing oral health literacy in the state. The newly renovated Dental Hygiene Student Clinic along with clinical rotation sites offer students diverse clinical experiences to equip students with skills to become competent oral health care providers. The program continually seeks opportunities to serve underserved populations.

Dental Hygiene Alumnus Starts Fund for Scholarship
Richard Robinson is used to being the only African American, male dental hygienist in the room. About 84% of all dental hygienists are white of which 96% are women. African Americans make up approximately 4% of all hygienists, with African American men accounting for fewer than 1%. Robinson wants to change that.
