College Advancement Committee
The primary function of this committee is to promote the college and its professional programs through philanthropy and student, alumni and community engagement. To accomplish philanthropic initiatives, the committee will work in conjunction with the UAMS Office of Institutional Advancement to support and promote fundraising efforts to benefit the college. In summary, the charges are to support UAMS College of Health Professions fund-raising activities; plan and assist with College of Health Professions student and alumni events; and other charges as assigned by the dean or the dean’s designee.
The committee shall be comprised of seven faculty members and the dean’s executive assistant. Faculty members shall serve three-year terms.
Faculty Development Committee
The primary function of this committee is to develop and support practices that enhance faculty development, professional relationships and career satisfaction. This includes identifying priority areas for faculty development and then planning, implementing and evaluating activities that enhance faculty skills, knowledge, and satisfaction as well as other charges as assigned by the dean or the dean’s designee. The committee also oversees the nomination and selection process for the faculty excellence awards.
The committee shall be comprised of seven faculty members. Members shall serve three-year terms. The UAMS College of Health Professions associate dean for academic affairs will provide guidance to the committee.
Research and Scholarly Activity Committee
The primary function of this committee is to promote scholarly activity and interdisciplinary collaboration, including grant activity. This includes, but is not limited to, identification and leveraging our faculty’s expertise, targeting resources and opportunities to support scholarly activities, recognizing our scholars and their work and other charges as assigned by the dean or the dean’s designee.
The committee shall be comprised of seven faculty members. Members shall serve three-year terms. The UAMS College of Health Professions associate dean for research will provide guidance to the committee.
Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee’s charge is to do the following:
- Create criteria and guidelines for college-wide scholarships
- Review and approve criteria and guidelines for program-specific scholarships
- Review and evaluate applications for college-wide scholarships and select recipients of these scholarships
- Adhere to donors’ wishes; approved criteria and guidelines; applicable laws and regulations; UAMS College of Health Professions policies; and general UAMS policies
- Publicize the availability, eligibility requirements and selection criteria for college-wide and department scholarships
- Notify the dean and Student Financial Services about recipients of scholarships
- Report annually to the dean on the committee’s activities and accomplishments
The Scholarship Committee shall be comprised of the associate dean for student affairs and six faculty members. All members are voting members. Faculty members are appointed for three-year terms. The associate dean for student affairs will serve as the chair of the committee.
Promotion and Tenure Committee
The Promotion and Tenure Committee is a standing committee of the college whose primary purpose is to maintain and improve the quality of its faculty through activities related to the promotion and tenure processes:
- Review and evaluate applications and portfolios for promotion and tenure;
- Tenured committee members have the responsibility for reviewing faculty portfolios for consideration for promotion and/or tenure;
- Non-tenured committee members have responsibility for reviewing faculty portfolios for consideration for promotion of non-tenured faculty
- Make written recommendations for appointments, promotion and tenure to the dean;
- Provide a promotion and tenure portfolio workshop annually;
- Produce and disseminate documents that educate and provide guidance about the criteria, required documentation, preparation of credentials (i.e., portfolio) and process for promotion and/or tenure application.
The election of committee members will be held in the fall of each year. Ballots will be distributed by Nov. 1 by the associate dean of administration. Committee service begins on July 1 concurrent with the fiscal year.
The committee may be composed of eight voting members who serve for three-year terms. Six members must be tenured and hold the rank of associate professor or higher. Up to two members may be non-tenure track faculty at the rank of associate professor or higher.
Administrative Committee
The Administrative Committee’s charge is to keep the administrative support staff informed of deadlines, new policies and procedures, changes in current policies and procedures, training opportunities, purchasing and travel updates, budget updates, construction updates, etc. This committee offers opportunities for staff development and provides support for special projects and college events.
The committee shall be comprised of program administrative assistants. The associate dean of administration will provide guidance to the committee.
Grievance Pool
All full-time UAMS College of Health Professions faculty will form a pool from which an appeal and grievance panel is selected according to the procedures outlined in the Student Academic Appeal Procedures (College of Health Professions Academic Affairs policy #01.15.01) or Grievance Procedure for Students Alleging Discrimination (UAMS Academic Affairs policy #2.2.1).
UAMS Academic Senate Council — College of Health Professions Representatives
The UAMS College of Health Professions holds two seats in the Academic Senate Council. Initiated by the associate dean of administration, an election is to be held each April to select one full-time faculty member to assume the position of the outgoing College of Health Professions representative. Each representative shall serve a two-year term.
Each College of Health Professions program has a designated college representative who serves as a liaison between the Academic Senate and the appointed College of Health Professions representatives and their respective programs.
UAMS Division for Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships Subcommittees
Subcommittees under the Division for Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships offer an opportunity to propose and implement campus-wide initiatives and engage a broad spectrum of faculty and staff members, students and trainees.
UAMS College of Health Professions faculty and staff may serve on the faculty and student subcommittees. Length of term is determined by the Division for Academic Pathways and Workforce Partnerships.
UAMS Division of People and Culture Subcommittees
Subcommittees under the UAMS Division of People and Culture offer an opportunity to propose and implement campus-wide initiatives and engage a broad spectrum of employees.
UAMS College of Health Professions faculty and staff may serve on the disability, veterans, and LQBTQ subcommittees. The length of the term is determined by the Division of People and Culture.
