Program Accreditation
The UAMS Cardio-Respiratory Care program (200176) Bachelor’s of Science degree in Little Rock is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com). Telephone: (817) 283-2835. www.coarc.com. Accreditation is required in order for graduates to be eligible to earn professional credentials (CRT and RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an ‘outcomes based’ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.
CoARC Program Outcomes DataThe RRT AS-to-BS program, designed for practicing professionals who already have the RRT credential, is offered under the Higher Learning Commission accreditation standards. Degree advancement programs do not require additional CoARC accreditation.
Program Recognition
The UAMS Cardio-Respiratory Care program is a multi-year recipient of the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award from CoARC. The primary criteria for this award requires an accredited program to achieve 90% or higher RRT credentialing success for the most recent three-year graduate cohorts, and to have met specific retention and job placement thresholds. We are proud to be the only B.S. degree program in the United States to receive this award each year since its inception, including the CoARC Excellence in Respiratory Care Education Award. In 2021, the program received the CoARC President’s Award for Excellence in Credentialing Success. This new award distinguishes programs who have 100% pass rates for credentialing exams, and recognizes the overall credentialing success rate of 100% for the three years 2018-2020.
