Prerequisite Courses

The information below applies to the Fall 2025 admission cycle.

Applicants must have completed, or be currently enrolled in, Introductory College Physics, College Algebra, and Anatomy and Physiology II before the March 15 application deadline.  Applicants may not have more than nine credits of remaining prerequisite courses that will be completed during the summer semester prior to enrollment in the fall.

The following 47 credits are required from an accredited college or university and must fulfill all College requirements regarding acceptance of transfer credit.

*Due to rules set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), Speech Communication is a required prerequisite and cannot be substituted by an additional Fine Arts/Humanities course.

**Anatomy & Physiology I must be completed at the time of application to the DMS program.  College Algebra, Anatomy & Physiology II, AND Physics must be either completed or in-progress at the time of application to the DMS program.

***Physics course(s) must cover acoustics, wave motion, heat, electricity, force, and energy.  Two courses may be required to cover all topics.  If you have any questions about the suitability of a physics course in meeting this requirement, please contact the Admissions Office for assistance.

Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) credits are only accepted for the general education requirements and cannot be used to satisfy the math and science requirements.

To be considered for acceptance into the program, the applicant must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of application. In addition, only grades of C or higher are accepted in all course work.

Actual course titles may vary among institutions. Consult the Division Director for preprofessional counseling.

Fulfillment of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography preprofessional curriculum does not assure admittance into the professional program (please see Application Procedures and Deadlines).
