Department of Physician Assistant Studies

About the Department

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is dedicated to excellence in health care education. We ensure students acquire broad medical knowledge and clinical skills, emphasizing compassionate care and cultural humility. Graduates are prepared to serve diverse patient populations in collaboration with a licensed physician. Through innovation and collaboration, we help shape health care’s future.

Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program

The program is a continuous 28-month, full-time professional program. The program strives to prepare physician assistants in a broad range of medical knowledge and skills and educate them to provide high-quality and compassionate health care to diverse patient populations with the supervision of a licensed physician. Upon completion of the degree requirements, students are awarded a Master of Physician Assistant Studies.

Accreditation

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Physician Assistant Program sponsored by the University of Arkansas. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards.

Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be September 2026. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.
