Bobby Morgan Endowed Scholarship

Eligible: Currently Enrolled Medical Laboratory Sciences Students Only

Background and Purpose

Established in 1994, this scholarship honors Mrs. Bobby K. Morgan, former UAMS Blood Bank Technical Director and Associate Professor in the medical laboratory sciences program. Mrs. Morgan was a valued faculty member in the college for 30 years. The scholarship was established by Mrs. Morgan’s husband, Dr. Paul Morgan, and Mrs. Morgan’s colleagues. The scholarship is awarded annually to an upper level student for his or her outstanding academic record, professionalism, and community involvement.

Award Amount and Timing

Subject to the availability of funds, the total annual award is $1,000 to the selected student. Scholarship award is as follows: $500 per semester, fall and spring semester enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must be officially enrolled student who has completed at least two semesters in the Medical Technology program.  Student who receives this award is ineligible to apply subsequently.
  2. Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program grade point average (pGPA) of not less than 2.5 is required.
  3. Documented Financial Need – All students applying for scholarships must apply for financial aid.  Students are not required to accept awarded loans, but in order to generate the aid report required that officially documents financial need, a completed FAFSA is required.  Please see the Student Financial Services website for more information.

References

  1. Two references are required – one from a UAMS Faculty members or Laboratory Supervisor who is familiar with their work, and one personal reference who is not associated with the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program.  Relatives cannot not be used as references.
