M. Gene Hall Endowed Scholarship
Eligible: Currently Enrolled Medical Laboratory Sciences Students Only
Background and Purpose
This scholarship was established in 1989 in honor of Ms. M. Gene Hall, Emeritus Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Sciences. Ms. Hall was a beloved faculty member in the medical laboratory sciences program for 32 years. The scholarship was established by Ms. Hall’s family, friends, colleagues, and former students. The scholarship is awarded to three students each year on the basis of academic excellence, citizenship, and professionalism.
Award Amount and Timing
Subject to the availability of funds, the total annual award is $2,000 to the selected student(s). Scholarship award is as follows: $1,000 per semester, fall and spring semester enrollment.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be an officially admitted or enrolled student (full-time or part-time) in the Medical Laboratory Sciences program in the Department of Laboratory Sciences.
- A minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (cGPA) is required. In addition, for students currently enrolled who have completed at least one semester of courses in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, a minimum of a 2.5 program GPA (pGPA) is also required.
- Documented Financial Need – All students applying for scholarships must apply for financial aid. Students are not required to accept awarded loans, but in order to generate the aid report required that officially documents financial need, a completed FAFSA is required. References
- Two references are required – one from a UAMS Faculty members or Laboratory Supervisor who is familiar with their work, and one personal reference who is not associated with the MLS program. Relatives cannot not be used as references.
