Jerry Brummett Endowed Scholarship

Eligible: Currently Enrolled Medical Laboratory Sciences Students Only

Background and Purpose

This scholarship was established in 2005 in honor of Mr. Jerry Brummet, former Chief Technologist and educator in the UAMS Blood Bank. Established by his wife, Mrs. Jan Brummet, and Mr. Brummet’s friends and colleagues, the scholarship honors his 40 years of service to UAMS, patients at the UAMS Medical Center, and students in the medical laboratory sciences program. The scholarship is awarded annually to an upper-level student who demonstrates academic excellence and financial need.

Award Amount and Timing

Subject to the availability of funds, the total annual award is $1,000 to the selected student.  Scholarship award is as follows: $500 per semester, fall and spring semester enrollments.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must be officially enrolled student who has completed at least two semesters in the Medical Technology program.  A student who receives this award is ineligible to apply for this award again.
  2. A minimum of a 2.5 program grade point average (pGPA).
  3. Documented Financial Need – All students applying for scholarships must apply for financial aid.  Students are not required to accept awarded loans, but in order to generate the aid report required that officially documents financial need, a completed FAFSA is required.  Please see the Student Financial Services website for more information.

References

  1. Two references are required: one from a UAMS Faculty members or Laboratory Supervisor who is familiar with their work, and one personal reference who is not associated with the MLS program.  Relatives cannot not be used as references.
