College of Health Professions Committees

College Advancement Committee

The College Advancement Committee’s charge is to promote the College of Health Professions and its professional programs through philanthropy and student, alumni and supporter engagement. To accomplish this charge, the committee will work in conjunction with the UAMS Office of Institutional Advancement to support and promote fundraising efforts to benefit the College.  In summary, the charges are to support CHP fund-raising activities; plan and assist with CHP student and alumni events; and other charges as assigned by the Dean or the Dean’s designee.

The committee shall be comprised of seven faculty members and the Dean’s executive assistant. Faculty members shall serve two-year terms.

Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee’s charge is to provide peer review and evaluation of curriculum and program policies affecting curriculum and to recommend changes in curriculum and related policies. The committee will provide guidance to programs in development of curricular proposals and materials, review and evaluate proposed curricular changes and new proposals, review policies affecting curriculum, and recommend needed changes and develop and periodically review standards, procedures, formats, and deadlines for submission and approval of curricular changes. In summary, the charges are to review proposed curriculum and course changes; review and update the CHP Curriculum Guide (as needed); and other charges as assigned by the Dean or the Dean’s designee.

The committee shall be comprised of seven faculty members with a minimum of two of whom are department chairs/program directors and no more than two of whom are from the same program including: at least one program director and the previous CHP Curriculum Committee chair. Members shall serve three-year terms with the exception of the previous CHP Curriculum Committee chair who shall serve a one-year term. The CHP Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will provide guidance to the committee.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Subcommittee

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Subcommittee’s charge is to represent the CHP and support the initiatives of the UAMS Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DDEI) through service on DDEI subcommittees.

The committee shall be comprised of the CHP faculty members and staff appointed by the DDEI to serve on their subcommittees. Length of term is determined by the DDEI.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee’s charge is to create criteria and guidelines for college-wide scholarships, review and approve criteria and guidelines for program-specific scholarships; review and evaluate applications for college-wide scholarships and select recipients of these scholarships; adhere to donors’ wishes, approved criteria and guidelines, applicable laws and regulations, and CHP and UAMS policies; notify the dean and Student Financial Services about recipients of scholarships; publicize the availability, eligibility requirements, and selection criteria for college-wide and department scholarships; and report annually to the dean on the committee’s activities and accomplishments.

The Scholarship Committee shall be comprised of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, six faculty members, and one staff member of the CHP Office of the Dean. All members are voting members.  Faculty members are appointed for two year terms, with three members appointed to begin their terms in even-numbered years and three members to begin their terms in odd-numbered years. Appointments are staggered so that every CHP program will be represented at least one time over a three year period.  The Associate Dean for Student Affairs will serve as the chair of the committee. The chair may make other appointments as necessary, e.g., secretary/scribe, etc.

Faculty Development and Services Committee

The primary function of this committee is to review, develop, and recommend policies and practices that enhance faculty development and professional relationships. Among committee responsibilities are to recommend and periodically review standards, procedures, and schedules for the measurement of faculty and administrative performance; identify areas of priority for faculty development, plan and coordinate activities which enhance faculty skills, knowledge, and interaction. In summary, the charges are to plan and coordinate CHP faculty and staff social events; oversee the nomination and selection process for the faculty excellence awards; periodically review and recommend standards, procedures, and schedules for the measurement of faculty and administrative performance; identify areas of priority for and coordinate faculty development activities; plan and coordinate activities which enhance faculty skills, knowledge, and interaction; and other charges as assigned by the Dean or the Dean’s designee.

The committee shall be comprised of seven faculty members, no more than three of whom are department chairs/program directors. Members shall serve two-year terms. The CHP Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will provide guidance to the committee.

CHP Grievance Pool

All full-time CHP faculty will form a pool from which an appeal and grievance panel is selected according to the procedures outlined in the Student Academic Appeal Procedures (CHP Academic Affairs policy # 01.15.01) or Grievance Procedure for Students Alleging Discrimination (UAMS Academic Affairs policy # 2.2.1).

Promotion and Tenure Committee

The CHP Promotion and Tenure Committee’s charge is to:

  1. Review faculty merit for promotion and tenure, and make written recommendations to the dean regarding faculty members’ applications for promotion and tenure
  2. Organize and present an annual workshop on promotion and tenure credentials and procedures
  3. Produce and disseminate documents that educate and provide guidance about the criteria, required documentation, preparation of credentials (i.e., portfolio) and process for promotion and/or tenure application.

The committee shall be composed of six elected faculty members who must be tenured in the college and hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher. Faculty serve for three-year terms. No member may serve for consecutive terms.  Ballots for the election of members are distributed by November 1. (Note: Membership to be updated when revised 2017 P&T Guidelines are approved by the UA BOT)

Academic Senate Council Representatives

The Academic Senate Council, a representative body of the Academic Senate, is composed of two faculty elected from each College and one faculty elected from campus-wide appointments, elected officers of the Academic Senate, and the president of Associated Student Government. The Academic Senate is composed of all UAMS faculty. Professors emeriti, adjunct professors and visiting professors, lecturers, and volunteer faculty members shall have voice, but no vote in the Academic Senate.

The College of Health Professions holds two seats in the Academic Senate Council.  An election is to be held each April to select one full-time faculty member to assume the position of the outgoing CHP representative. Each representative shall serve a two-year term.

CHP Administrative Committee

The Administrative Committee’s charge is to keep the administrative support staff informed of deadlines, new policies and procedures, changes in current policies and procedures, training opportunities, purchasing and travel updates, budget updates, construction updates, etc. This committee offers opportunities for staff development and provides support for special projects.

The committee shall be comprised of all CHP administrative staff members. The CHP Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs will provide guidance to the committee.
